Cerussite
This cabinet-sized display specimen of Cerussite on matrix from Tsumeb mine is very distinctive on a number of levels. Firstly, it presents a lesser seen golden to brown colour with internal zoning in several directions and with glassy surfaces on its sides and strong internal reflections. End on, the crystal, which measures 4.6 x 3 cm and 2.5 cm deep, displays complex cyclic twinning representing what appears to be two sixlings joined seamlessly side by side. This twinning is picked out wonderfully by the crystallized 'grooves' on the flat front facing crystal surface. To add to its allure, this large and superbly coloured multiply twinned crystal sits perfectly for display on a well proportioned matrix. On first impressions the matrix looks to be a cavernous porous Dolomite but close inspections reveals that it is a web of veins coated in tiny colourless acicular crystals which are mostly likely Willemite. A highly distinctive and world-class display quality Cerussite. Ex Weyand collection.
