Calcite
Having studied this specimen I feel almost lost for words. I cannot imagine a more sculpturally impressive Calcite from Tsumeb mine as this piece is so dazzlingly dramatic. It is 100 percent Calcite, but boy does it make me want to love that species. From a central point at its base tall stacks of glossy cream coloured rhombic crystals rise up like mountains, or in one case like a Christmas tree. The stacks generally begin wide at their base and taper towards the top, but always with a slightly wider crystal at their summit. The individual rhombic crystals as building blocks range from 1 cm to about 2.5 cm in size. They are in absolutely miraculous condition for such a soft species in such large size.
