Pederneira mine, “Rocket Pocket” (2001): fibrous base grading to vivid teal-green. Hollow core at the base; excellent condition with attractive sidecar and high transparency. Approx. ~300 crystals reported from the find.
A fine example from the sought-after “Rocket Pocket” discovery at the Pederneira mine. Crystals from this find show a delicate fibrous layer at the base (often hiding a pink core) that grades into a vivid teal-green toward the termination. The pocket was accidentally breached with dynamite, breaking many of the fragile fibrous layers and, serendipitously, revealing bright pink cores that gave some crystals their rocket-like look and the pocket its nickname. According to Mineralogical Record, the pocket produced roughly 300 crystals.
This is among the best small examples I’ve seen from this find. While the base is hollow and lacks a pink stem, but a complementary “sidecar” crystal that adds presence. The body is notably clear and bright, with high transparency through most of the prism. Weight is approximate, around 8.8 grams.
