Just a gorgeous azurite plate from Bisbee! This is a classic example from the glory days of the late 1890s and early 1900s, with rich, robust, deep blue azurite crystals completely covering a plate of matrix. It is an aesthetic, balanced and beautiful cabinet piece with crystals averaging 1 cm that are randomly oriented and just scintillate and reflect light from every direction! Individual crystals are all similar with a tabular shape with barely discernible complex growth faces at the center of each crystal. This piece is over 100 years old, and classic for material from the 1890s or early 1900s. This piece was bought from John Betts on 4/24/2003, who purchased from the Robert C. Linck collection (through his son). Linck was a well known collector and businessman who was active in the 1940s-1960s. He in turn bought it from Schortmann's Minerals, in 1950, from a previous collection (they specialized in huge collection liquidations at the time). It is better in person as the depth of color is hard to convey. To those who know the subtle styles and appreciate them in old Bisbee pieces, this is an important specimen (and you can see what he paid, at the time).
