Topaz
A truly clear, pale green-yellow topaz with brilliant internal reflections as well as external glassiness...and it's from Virginia! This is a large and sharp crystal for the locality, and for the eastern U.S. in general, with true three-dimensionality and sheer clarity. The robust crystal 4.3 cm tall and has broad, faintly striated prism faces and a chisel-shaped termination with complex, second order pyramid faces for additional geometric appeal. The subtle pale green-yellow color certainly adds to the aesthetics and is reminiscent of Colorado topaz crystals. There is some internal crazing and a few interior cleavage traces that lends to its internal reflectivity and glow. There are a few small, iron-stained inclusions as well. A flattened, 2.5 cm sidecar Topaz adds interest three-dimensionality! Ex Dr. Earnest Carlson of Kent State University.
