Quartz var. Amethyst on Quartz
A classic amethyst from an important USA locale, which we sold to George Loud when we got the George Feist collection back in 2009. An old-time and aesthetic cabinet cluster of glassy and mostly transparent Amethyst crystals with a pleasing variable purple color intensity from a classic South Carolina locality: the Ellis-Jones Mine (often referred to simply as Due West). Ten stout crystals vary in size from 2 to 7 cm in length and some of the crystals are doubly terminated, including the large 7 cm one! The matrix of milky Quartz crystals they grew on top of and peek out of one side range from 0.5 to 2.5 cm and they make a nice accent. Some of the finest Eastern U.S. amethysts have come from this locality. Trivial termination edgware to two of the larger crystals and a ding on another are certainly not a detriment to this classic. Seldom available in this quality from this classic U.S. locale. Lawrence Conklin to George Feist (to me) and then to the George Loud collections.
