Fluorapatite
This sparkling lavender Fluorapatite plate is from the Bell Pit, Newry, Maine. It is a fantastic small cabinet piece covered with a myriad of 2 to 4 mm, light purple, slender prismatic prisms of fluorapatite that just just scintillate as you turn the piece. The lovely fluorapatites appear in small, low-profile, mounded clusters averaging 4 to 5 mm across that blanket the display face of this attractive piece. The fluorapatite seems to coat a fracture on snow-white microcline that is accented by very fine-grained, yellow-green muscovite. Maine has produced some of the best purple fluorapatite from granite pegmatites compared to other U.S. localities. These historic U.S. specimens are highly desired and seldom for sale. Likely from the late 1800s or early 1900s, and ex. Harvard Museum.
