The Morefield Mine in Virginia has yielded some attractive amazonite crystals and this piece is one of them! This mostly complete crystal is a very fine and rare example of this material as the crystal is about three-quarters complete with sharp, well-defined faces and edges and a lovely blue-green hue. The prism faces and partial termination have good luster and the only "roughness" on the piece is on the right side where it was broken and still has good color. The back also shows where the big crystal was separated from other amazonite crystals by the negative crystal impressions. A wonderful piece of this incredibly hard to find material from this pegmatite mine in central Virginia. This big, beautiful crystal has a mass of 796 grams. It was bought by George Loud on 7/17/99 from Carter Rich, who purchased it in June 1999 from Bob Jenkins.
