Analcime ps. Burbankite with Donnayite-(Y)$3,500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A rarely seen and notably showy cabinet-sized display specimen of what turned out to be, surprisingly, analcime pseudomorphing burbankite from Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. This robust specimen is a single huge composite crystal of these, now snow-white, attractive pseudomorphs, measuring to just over 4 inches long and showing the prismatic and parallel growth habits of the original burbankite. It sparkles, too! Open areas along the length of the pseudomorphs are filled with colorless to white, sparkling, 2 to 3 mm, analcime crystals. The piece is in very good condition with the form of the original (huge!) burbankite crystals visibly distinct and coated as well as replaced by white, fine-grained analcime and then there are the elongate to patchy open areas along the length of th pseudomorphs line with analcime crystals. This is one of the best of these rare pseudomorphs we've had to offer. For reference, the Poudrette Quarry is one of the world's top localities both in terms of quantity and quality of its minerals. The entry on mindat.org states that there are 440 different species found there and it is the type locality for 73 of them. Pseudomorphs go crazy here, and there must be 100 styles and combinations. This represents the largest development of this style, and it is attractive as well. An old specimen and find, with Doug Wilson's label noting that it was collected in July of 1959. Illustrated in Collecting Pseudomorphs: The Changelings of Mineralogy (Mineralogical Record, Jan 2025) on page 107. Comes with a custom lucite display base. Laszlo Kupi photo.
