Quartz var. Amethyst (Japan-Law Twin)$18,000.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
This is a very unique, very large and very sculptural, 360 degree amethyst "cactus quartz" crystal cluster with two pairs of giant Japan-Law twins from South Africa! The quartz twins each measure a remarkable 8 inches across! We have seen a lot of "cactus quartz" from this locality, but never anything like this! The big "butterfly" twins are just remarkable for their size and then they, as well as the entire piece, are covered in a coarse druse of 2 to 4 mm, lavender amethyst quartz crystals! They are very glassy and sparkly and are translucent to transparent. Some of the glassy, underlying quartz faces show through the amethyst druse in places (so we think this is amethyst upon a quartz twin, not a large amethyst twin in and of itself - although the "look" is as if it is the world's best amethyst twin!). There are other, smaller, "tabular" quartz crystals on the piece that are also covered with druse and they may be Japan-Law twins as well, however, if they are, they are not as obvious as the large ones in habit. A couple of them bridge across the two larger twins. All of the druzy crystals on this gorgeous piece are essentially pristine with only local peripheral contacting that is certainly acceptable in the context of collecting this very large and showy specimen. This was obtained for Dr. Pohl from the important African quartz collection of Marshall and Charlotte Sussman in the early 2000s by Star Van Scriver. It had previously come from the Sussman purchase of the Charlie Key African quartz collection, encompassing the best overall quartz of its time from the famous 90s and early 2000s finds across Namibia and South Africa.
