Smithsonite var. Cuprian
Rich green, botryoidal style "apple-green" cuprian smithsonite like this piece from Tsumeb is among the most rare and desired of all colors for the species. The color on this piece is super-saturated and strong! Mounded, very three-dimensional, saturated green smithsonite botryoids completely cover the display surface of this colorful small cabinet specimen. The translucent spheres display a somewhat glistening satin luster that shimmers as you roll the piece in your hand! These gorgeous green botryoids are from 1 to 2 cm across but form into rolling large clusters. The form and color almost resembles some of the best prehnite at first glance, but this smithsonite represents some of the best botryoidal green cuprian smithsonite Tsumeb ever produced. There are few small bruises on the top of the piece that don't detract much from the overall presence and significance of this piece (and can be fixed, with a trip to a proper cleaning lab to help remove the slight bruising). An exceptional cuprian smithsonite from ANY find, particularly Tsumeb! #36225, so we know this dates to the 1970s. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher #36225
