NATIVE Copper
This extremely large (18 cm in length) flattened branching Native Copper comes from the famous Central mine at Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA. Its surface texture and reflections at certain angles indicate that it has been acid treated to remove surrounding matrix, but areas of rock still remain embedded within the surface in some areas. Its form is not of the famous, and rare, discrete blocky crystals, but as an almost worm-like mass previously infilling tubes, or fractures within vein material or host rock. For a large and bright Native Copper specimen from Michigan you can't go far wrong. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 583.
