Malachite
L'Etoile du Congo mine, or Star of Congo mine, is a long-lived copper producer in the Katanga Copper Crescent, Dem. Rep. of Congo. Worked for well over a century this rich deposit has produced some exceptional Malachite specimens in weird and wonderful sculptural forms. This large cabinet specimen from a recent find is no exception, presenting a series of parallel stalactites but which are complete all round - a remarkable floater specimen. The Malachite is less velvety and more matt than some specimens from L'Etoile du Congo mine, but this is possibly a reflection of increasing phosphate content - the paler green tips are sometimes referred to as Pseudomalachite. Its overall shape and presence is superb, really drawing in the eye. It comes with a custom-made Sunnywood acryllic display stand allowing it to stand upright at its spectacular best.
