Analcime
This is a highly significant example of analcime, rare from the old copper country district mines. It is notable for the mounded and geometric form, which is volumetric and impressive. The largest crystal is 3 cm across! The cluster is huge and looks like a geodesic dome, among the most rich we are aware of for the material. Most importantly, this is a snow white color with some kind of ivory-porcelain surface to them, so it is actually pretty. Most Michigan analcimes have a bit of dark color, muted white color, or are just dull. Those are important locality pieces but simply not competitive in a world of minerals overall, sometimes. Not this one! This is special, and sparkles and draws the eye as a result. Most such specimens are simply crystals on flattish plates, not made for dramatic display such as this. Most of these came out in the late 1800s into the early 1900s, although of course some stragglers could have been found later. Still, most we have seen with reliable provenance did come from old museum collections or those affiliated with building old collections; and it is logical to assume this is from the old era. It is simply too big and too good, unlike anything we are aware of from a very few more recent finds. Also, note the bonus of provenance through multiple well-known collections of Copper Country and Midwest minerals.
