Quartz on Chrysocolla
Blue quartz, silica quartz, gem blue silica, quartz infused with silica...these are all names we see in the gem and lapidary trade for the gorgeous combinations of chrysocolla and quartz which came out of several mines in Arizona in the mid to late 1900s. Much of this material was used for carving, and made into lapidary pieces for jewelry or decor. Some few specimens, relatively, survived. Unusual in its superb condition. This is a complete pocket of crystallized quartz upon chrysocolla stalactites, protected in this little space. Free of damage, it also shows how these growths formed in small open spaces in the deposit. A beautiful piece that is somehow hard to convey in photos, so please do see the video. From the collection of Arizona specialist, Les Presmyk.
