Andradite var. Demantoid Garnet
Demantoid garnet of the green and gemmy variety is known from only a few locations worldwide. The most famous, historically, is Italy. However, all that old stuff was superseded by amazing finds starting nearly 20 years ago in Madagascar, with discoveries brought to market mostly by the team of Dr. Federico Pezzotta. This is one of those, from a particularly choice pocket with great "open" color, gemmy crystals, and a stunning look as they are dispersed on contrasting matrix. This piece is rich with crystals to 1.3 cm, and no damage, and would probably date to 2010-2015 finds. It has a wonderful contrast. The matrix is actually fossilized coral, that is also replaced by (colorless) garnet at the microscopic level, so technically this is garnet on garnet.
