Libethenite
Libethenite - copper phosphate hydroxide - is much rarer in Cornwall than its arsenate analogue, Olivenite. However, at Wheal Phoenix near Linkinhorne in the Liskeard District, phosphate minerals dominate in the oxidation zone and consequently this is where some of the richest British Libethenite was to be found. This miniature specimen from Malcolm Southwood's collection consists of the classic iron oxide-rich gossan and Quartz, with several cavities (the largest 1 x 0.5 cm) lined with sparkling deep forest-green Libethenite microcrystals.
