NATIVE Copper
This is an extremely rare early historic crystallized Native Copper specimen from Rheinbreitbach in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Not only is the specimen a very rich miniature, composed almost entirely of exceptionally sharp Native Copper crystals but it is also accompanied by two lovely old German handwritten labels. These appear to date to the second half of the 19th century, with one recording "1864", which is presumed to be the year it was found. If this is the case, then the specimen was collected when these ancient copper mines were still working - they worked intermittently between 1611-1872. The Native Copper displays, in many places, a fine historic-looking patina, but some of the smaller crystals are much brighter metallic. This is a lovely historic German Native Copper and comes from the superb collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
