Cuprite with Calcite$6,500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
The Ogonja mines in Namibia have produced some of the world's largest Cuprite (copper oxide) crystals and this colossal crystal is one of the finest known. Reaching 7 cm across it puts most other Cuprite crystals to shame. In fact, as a single crystal it is small cabinet in size on its own. Like most Cuprite crystals from the Ogonja mines it shows surface alteration/oxidation to green Malachite (copper carbonate hydroxide), but this is a very thin coating. The front of the crystal presents amazing cubo-octahedral faces with really well-defined edges. Calcite stalactites rise up across part of this side from its base, but rather than detracting from it, they add character to it. The back of the specimen has a corner missing exposing not only the rich purple-red internal colour of the Cuprite, but also showing how thin the Malachite surface coating is. This is a phenomenal Cuprite for size and shape. Comes with a custom-made acryllic display stand.
