CONICALCITE ps. Calcite on Azurite
This funky small miniature specimen is not only a great pseudomorph but it is a rare species too. Looking like a mohican haircut, the Conichalcite pseudomorphs a fan-like spray of Calcite crystals perched upon a nodule of Azurite. The famous Lavrion region in Attikí Prefecture, Greece is well-known for Conichalcite, but usually a small globular aggregates rather than anything quite so distinctive as this. The former Calcite crystals are deeper green internally where a few have been chipped, and are coated on the outside by paler green microbotryoidal Conichalcite. The Azurite nodule is finely crystallized and porous. It is mounted on an acryllic base for display.
