This small cabinet-sized specimen of Neptunite from California is not from the famous California State Gem mine in San Benito County, but from another historic occurrence in the same county - Mina Numero Uno. There are several key differences in specimens between these localities. Firstly, this specimen does not have the bright white Natrolite matrix hosting the glossy black Neptunite crystals and secondly, the Neptunite crystals have a subtly different morphology, with abrupt truncated terminations. Ex David Hardman collection. A very different but quite pleasing example of this rare species.
