Hessite
Hessite - silver telluride - is one of those iconic rare species known in great crystals from just one small area of the planet: Botești (Boteș), Zlatna, Alba Co., Romania. What is more, virtually all of the good specimens were mined over 150 years ago. Distinctive in its form, Hessite always displays very rounded crystals, just like melted wax. This stunning miniature specimen is immaculate in its presentation, forming a thin layer of rock matrix upon which a thin (7 mm) vein of terminated white Quartz crystals has formed. Liberally 'drizzled' upon the Quartz is a 1.5 cm tall aggregate of beautifully classically crystallized dark grey waxy Hessite, covering an area 4 x 2.7 cm in extent. Individual Hessite crystals reach 4 mm in size and the overall coverage of crystals is superb. A magnificent miniature Hessite and precisely provenanced to the famous Anna mine. Ex Professor Werner Paar collection.
