Poldervaartite (Type Locality)
An exquisite small cabinet specimen for beauty alone, from the amazing find of one pocket zone at the Wessels Mine that is the Type Locality, and remains the best locality for the species. Pieces from this find are long gone and superlative specimens like this are incredibly rare. A later find of Olmiite at the N'Chwaning II Mine in 2001 and on were assumed to be Poldervaartite, but were later shown to be the related species Olmiite, making these original and real Polder's even more valuable. Sadly, some owners of these relabelled them as olmiite and they were sold into the market as well - but this style and shape is indeed the real Poldervaartite and remains world's best. This piece is truly a display quality specimen and shows off two broad rounded clusters just loaded with glistening, short to slightly elongated prismatic crystals of flesh-pink Poldervaartite from 3 to 6 mm in size. The color changes in different lighting from pinkish through shades of orangey-brown (please note, it really is color changing...every light source gives a different hue!). Crystals are translucent, bright and lustrous. These very rarely show up in old collections like this one from the noted collection of Desmond Sacco of South Africa. He sold it in the early 2000s through one of his intermediaries at an old Munich show to Dr. Vasco Trancoso of Lisbon. We later purchased the Trancoso collection, which has so many wonderful rare species like this. Thumbnails sell for $1000 or more - and this is a full small cabinet piece.
