Colemanite
A rare and superb Colemanite from this important and historic, but lesser-known Turkish locality for the species. This is a cabinet sized cluster of large, sparkling, gemmy to translucent, colorless crystals of Colemanite from 1 to 4.5 cm in length that are aesthetically emplaced on matrix. The big crystals are nicely isolated and textbook perfect monoclinic crystals with sharp edges and faces. The luster on these crystals along with internal reflections are breathtaking and clearly different from California material. The matrix as observed on the bottom of the piece is mostly coarse granular Colemanite. Piece of this matria, especially of this quality, is seldom seen on the market today. From an old private collection in Europe, obtained from a source in Turkey (the mine engineer) who used to sell these quietly at the Munich show in the 90s and early 2000s. This is /was one of his finest large matrix pieces and is truly a fine example of this valuable industrial species, location aside.
