Gadolinite-(Y)
A large and truly exceptional crystal of the rare earth mineral Gadolinite-(Y) from one of the historic European localities for such pieces that are rarely seen today. It is a very well-formed crystal of this yttrium-iron-beryllium silicate that displays sharp edges and well-developed faces. The color is a dark brown-black and exhibits a resinous luster. The top termination is almost skeletal resulting from the recessed and parallel growth of crystals on the back of the piece. There are elongate to equant intergrowths of buff colored Albite blades sunk into irregularities in the front faces, top and back of the Gadolinite-(Y) crystal as well. This a quite remarkable crystal of the species from this great locality! From the important collection of former dealer and collector Dr. HJ Wilke, sold off by Wendel Minerals, years ago.
