Cafarsite is an very rare calcium-titanium-iron manganese arsenite and occurs at a handful of places along a specific area at the Swiss and Italian border in the Alps and from one occurrence in Canada. This piece originates from the Type Locality at the Wanni Glacier, Switzerland. It features a single, very sharp, dark red-black, complex, 1.2 cm, isometric Cafarsite crystal perched atop an artistic piece of contrasting pale gray gneiss matrix. The contrast is amazing and beautiful. The Cafarsite crystal is associated with a few dozen, green-black, 1 to 1.5 mm, rounded aggregates of Clinochlore. Discrete, free-standing, well-formed Cafarsite crystals, such as this are rare. This is a superb and attractive combination specimen for Cafarsite, in a great size and price range for quality based on sharpness and the matrix association.
