Malachite
While this lesser-known copper mine has a history of producing material by the thousands of tonnes, minerals of specimen quality are an unusual occurrence. This particular Malachite specimen is a true oddity from the now-closed Mutanda Mine, presenting an incredibly sculptural collection of seamlessly interweaving radial clusters that are aesthetically balanced by pockets of negative space. Each of the oblong clusters have a velvety surface that, save for a few patches of flashy microcrystals, is completely smooth to the touch; some of the larger groups are accented with subtle color differentiations that are shaped in a way that is reminiscent of a topographic map. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
