Cuprite
The arrangement of this showy Cuprite specimen is very artistic, almost organic, divided in two by a river of scintillating, metallic, and wonderfully octahedral Cuprite crystals. They vary in size for a nice visual effect, and the edges of the octahedrons have a subtle convex bend to them. To the left of this stream of Cuprite is a coating of a bubbly oxide mineral, possibly Goethite, over which a few more octahedrons rest upon. This specimen comes from one of Milpillas Mine's seven copper oxide bodies, which were, for the most part, fully exploited and mined out by 2011, and while sulfide deposits have been discovered, there has been little in the way of new production for oxide minerals such as these fine Cuprites. This specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
