Baryte on Sphalerite
Elmwood Baryte is very particular: in cases like these the crystals are nearly microcrystalline, and have arranged themselves into these huge, fluffy-looking balls, of which there are not one, not two, but four: all are in fabulous condition and totally complete aside from where they connect to the matrix; this matrix is entirely made up of sharp, aggregate clusters of Sphalerite, which fires up with a bright yellow-orange color when backlit. The luster on these Sphalerite crystals are excellent, a nice textural foil to the Barytes relatively matte luster and cream color. This style of Baryte is unique to the Elmwood Mine, already quite famous for its wonderful purple Fluorites, and these botryoidal style clusters aren't replicated in most other Baryte localities. This specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
