Pyrite Stalactite with Marcasite
This is a very unusual specimen from the historical and long-closed Black Jack Mine that features spectacular Marcasite stalactites that pseudomorphed into Pyrite; each stalactite rises above a landscape of beautifully-formed Marcasite rosettes, giving the piece a sculptural arrangement reminiscent of karst topography. From every side, the stalactites are covered with a shimmering, velvety surface of microcrystals and dusted with a secondary generation of tiny, lustrous Pyrite crystals. The surrounding Marcasite clusters have a strong metallic sheen and deep brassy color that is, in large part, accented with blue and green iridescence; some of the Marcasite is lightly frosted with a thin layer of microcrystals. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
