Aragonite var. Flos Ferri
Styria in Austria is well-known for delicate stalactitic forms of Aragonite. Known as "Flos Ferri", or "Flowers of Iron" (even though they don't contain iron), they occur in many forms: from complicated 'nests' of thin intertwinned stalactites, to branching radiating sprays like growths of coral. What most have in common is their bright white colour and matt surface lustre. This beautiful miniature comes from Flatschach and is from Horst Wolle's collection, forming a coralline, or perhaps sea anemone-like growth, with a couple of extra protrusions off to the side.
