This gorgeous glassy orange Mimetite epitomizes everything great about the stunning discoveries at Pingtouling mine in Guangdong Province, China. It could be argued that this mine has produced the world's finest Mimetite, but there are a few other candidates, each with distinctive features which would run it close. Specimens were first found at Pingtouling mine in the early 2000s and came shortly after a similar, but slightly inferior find in Thailand. The best Pingtouling specimens, like this cabinet-sized display specimen, feature 'glowing' glassy orange hexagonal prismatic Mimetite crystals coating, or lining cavities within gossan. However, the supply was short-lived, and now material is only seen as specimens are traded out from high-end collections. This is a really eye-catching specimen and holds its own against some of the very best Mimetite and Pyromorphite specimens from anywhere.
