This extremely rich Pyromorphite from Roughton Gill in the Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria, England has the slightly weathered appearance of having come from surface workings and visually looks similar to material seen in the vein outcrop on Iron Crag. Having said that, it is an almost pure (and dense) aggregate of tapering pointed pale lime green crystals, many reaching 1 cm in length and with flashes of the amazing 'wet' greasy lustre seen in 19th century specimens. The rich Pyromorphite forms what appears to be a 2.5 cm wide vein with iron-stained sugary Quartz on one side and small patches of black manganese oxides evident too. It is not the most attractive Roughton Gill Pyromorphite but it is certainly one of the richer ones. Ex Malcolm Southwood collection, no. MS 2004.001, and ex two other unknown collections (nos. 789 and S.149.82). The second number label looking like it could date to the 1980s or earlier.
