Prehnite with Malachite and NATIVE Copper
Boylestone quarry on the outskirts of Glasgow city is a famous Scottish Prehnite locality dating back to the 1970s and 1980s, after which it was preserved as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). Part of its scientific importance is the association with copper mineralization that formed the basis of a study in the late 1980s. This rich small cabinet specimen is ex David Hardman collection, no. 3079 having been acquired by him in the 1980s. With typical basalt matrix, Prehnite forms glossy, pale green globular aggregates infilling cavities. One cavity displays powdery green Malachite coating the Prehnite which contains inclusions of Native Copper. Classic material from this long closed off collecting site.
