Fluorite pseudomorphs after petrified wood from Hilbersdorf (Chemnitz Petrified Forest), Saxony, Germany, are unique worldwide, formed when Permian-age wood logs were partially replaced by quartz and lavender-blue fluorite that preserved original growth rings and bark textures. With the Chemnitz petrified forest now a protected geological area where collecting is forbidden, existing specimens such as this one remain highly prized by mineral enthusiasts.
