A nice, large (15cm) specimen of aquamarine on muscovite matrix from Pakistan's prolific Nagar district. The Nagar aquamarine locality lies in the Chumar Bakhoor area of Sumayar, Nagar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, where miners first uncovered gem-quality aquamarine in the late 1950s from greisenized pegmatite dikes cutting the high-altitude slopes of Chumar Bakhoor. Over the following decades, artisanal miners and small crews tunneled into steep, granite-hosted veins to extract sky-blue aquamarine crystals often found with muscovite and occasionally fluorite. Though large pockets are rare, seasonal mining continues via local teams and joint ventures, and Nagar remains renowned among collectors. The specimen displays nicely in spite of some damage and a possible repair.
