Ludlockite with Tennantite and Quartz
Ludlockite is one of the all-time classic rarities from Tsumeb mine having been discovered there during the 1960s and named after the two mineral dealers - Frederick Ludlow Smith III and Charles Locke Key - who provided the material for study. Often seen as bundles of loose, off-matrix, burnt-orange coloured fibres, this miniature specimen is a superb, and rare example, of Ludlockite on matrix. This matrix is massive dark grey metallic Tennantite and the Ludlockite forms radiating sprays (to 5 mm across) of silky acicular crystals. The largest area of Ludlockite reaches 8 mm across.
