Calcite
Here is a single, robust, highly modified scalenohedral Calcite crystal from a little known mine in Mexico with a really unique style and amazing gemmy qualities. This Calcite crystal is incredibly intriguing as it truly does look like what has been called "dogtooth spar" with its elongate scalenohedral habit and cone-shaped, "canine" looking form due to the numerous, complex faces and rounded point. There are numerous first, second and possibly third order pyramid faces on the main part of the crystal that consist of alternating smooth faces with ones having faint horizontal striations! The tip is also quite complex with very small, shallow-angle faces that culminate at a small, flat face right at the termination. To add to its aesthetics, the crystal is colorless and completely transparent. Fluorescent. Featured in the book Collecting Pseudomorphs: The Changelings of Mineralogy (Mineralogical Record, January 2025) on p. 67, fig. 11. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Fluorite on Sphalerite (SYP25-09a) and Fluorite ps. Calcite (SYP25-09b).
