Rhodochrosite ps. Serandite, Natrolite
This was a great cluster of Serandite crystals that have now been totally replaced by Rhodochrosite! This is a unique pseudomorph replacement, found only in a few pockets at most, in this one location. There are nearly a dozen bladed prismatic crystals of what were Serandite, a sodium-manganese silicate that were replaced by Rhodochrosite a manganese carbonate. The former Serandite crystals range in size from 1 to 4.2 cm in length and are in parallel, or nearly so, orientation and are now a dull, dark pink color with a matte finish. Several colorless to whitish, 2 to 5 mm Natrolite crystals adorn the Rhodochrosite after Serandite pseudomorphs for a nice accent! Featured in the book Collecting Pseudomorphs: The Changelings of Mineralogy (Mineralogical Record, January 2025) on p. 70, fig. 17. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Rhodochrosite on Sphalerite (SYP25-06a) and Serandite (SYP25-06c).
