Quartz ps. Apatite
A pair of stout, prismatic "Apatite" crystals have been completely replaced by Quartz in this sparkling pseudomorph from Mount Malosa. One crystal measures 5.8 cm in length and the other 3.6 cm and both are an overall cream color with some patchy brown and orange iron oxide staining locally. The outer surfaces consist of a glistening coating of lustrous, 2 to 5 mm, randomly oriented Quartz crystals. Looking at the base of the piece one can see small, slightly elongate vugs or hollowed out areas that go up a short way into the crystals. An intriguing and captivating pseudomorph from an old collection purchased out of Africa in the 1990s by Marshall and Charlotte Sussman, which went to us, and then to Stretch Young. Unique as a find, to the present day. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Quartz (SYP25-07a) and Fluorapatite (SYP25-07c).
