Scheelite on Quartz
Scheelite is rare at the Camp Bird Mine and it is associated here with Quartz. This was once a classic USA locality for Scheelite, although now it is both forgotten and, for many, eclipsed by Chinese Scheelite (which can look similar). However, this is much more rare! This piece consists of one large, 2.5 cm crystal, two smaller 1 cm and 0.7 cm crystals along with numerous 1 to 2.5 mm crystals scattered on the milky Quartz. The Scheelites are pseudo-octahedral, smoky brown, well-formed crystals with sharp edges and lustrous faces. The milky Quartz consists of one, large, 5.1 cm, doubly terminated crystal, a few smaller ones, as well as a druse of 1 to 3 mm crystals. This is a great small cabinet piece from this locality! Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Ferberite with Quartz (SYP25-04a) and Ferberite ps. Scheelite on matrix (SYP25-04b).
