Vanadinite ps. Wulfenite
Here is an unusual (and sparkly!) thumbnail-sized pseudomorph of Vanadinite after Wulfenite from the Rowley Mine in Arizona. It's a lovely, sparkling thin rectangle of a crystal that is perched on a small sliver of matrix for perfect balance and composition! So chemically, the Wulfenite, a lead molybdate, has been replaced by Vanadinite, a lead-chloro-vanadate! This is an exceptional pseudomorph for what it is visually and chemically! Complete, sharp, colorful — this is an extreme rarity as well. Featured in the book Collecting Pseudomorphs: The Changelings of Mineralogy (Mineralogical Record, January 2025) on p. 68, fig. 13. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Vanadinite (SYP25-03a) and Wulfenite on Quartz (SYP25-03c).
