Rhodochrosite on Sphalerite
An excellent example of the rhombohedral habit of Rhodochrosite and quite rare from the Poudrette Quarry at Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. This cluster of translucent, lustrous, pink crystals is complete all around and in excellent condition and perched on Sphalerite which adds considerably to the aesthetics. There are almost a dozen crystals in this attractive group ranging in size from 3 mm to 1.5 cm across the diagonal. A great thumbnail for the locality! Featured in the book Collecting Pseudomorphs: The Changelings of Mineralogy (Mineralogical Record, January 2025) on p. 70, fig. 17. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Rhodochrosite ps. Serandite, Natrolite (SYP25-06b) and Serandite (SYP25-06c).
