Manganite
Dense groups of beautiful 1 cm Manganite crystals cover the display surface of this small cabinet piece from the Caland Pit iron mine in Ontario. The tapering prismatic crystals display multiply pointed terminations and are bright, shiny black with a submetallic luster. Sides of the piece show the crystals to radiate divergently from the knob of matrix. The piece looks like a small, spiky black hedgehog! Although an iron mine, it is well known for its lustrous and rather large Manganite crystals in dense, attractive groups like this! From old finds, probably 1990s when acquired. Part of an educational set, with these additional items: Manganite ps. Pyrolusite with Baryte (SYP25-19b) and Pyrolusite (SYP25-19c).
