Titanite with Quartz
A Russian classic from the far north. Dodo mine in Prepolar Ural is world-famous for its titanium minerals and Quartz crystals. This amazing small cabinet-sized Titanite-Quartz specimen is a perfect example of the quality this mine once produced. One notable feature of the Titanites from Dodo mine is their twinning. This specimen is no exception, with nearly every Titanite crystal on it twinned. The largest crystal reaches an impressive 3.4 cm in length and they are all a distinctive brown colour with internal cream-coloured zones. The largest crystal unfortunately has some damage to the main edge, but still looks impressive. A single 3 cm tall terminated Quartz var. Rock Crystal sits in between the large bladed crystals of Titanite, providing a lovely combination of this classic 'alpine-type' mineral assemblage. Ex G. Barker collection (no. 410) but the label is water damaged. A super example of this rarely seen classic.
