Scorodite in Germanium ore matrix
This is a superior-quality Scorodite miniature (and a large one, at that) from the great Tsumeb Mine, for the rare matrix association and context of the environment in which it formed. Atop the metallic ore matrix is a set of crystalline-to-massive Scorodites of varying size and quality. Displayed perfectly is one nearly complete, 1.7 cm Scorodite that is GEMMY, deep-blue, and has the mirror-like luster that Scorodites are famous for. This riveting, display-sized crystal of Scorodite is simply a "jewel" — and we rarely get them on matrix. The matrix itself is a germanium ore from the germanium level of the mine, which contains other rarities, often. Such matrix specimens are EXTREMELY uncommon. Winding through the metallic matrix are brown crystalline crusts. On related specimens, associated Beudantite has been verified, and if that was the case here, it would make this an even more-uncommon combination. As it is, such Scorodites are rare, making this a superb example for the species and for the locality. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 25019.
