LITERALLY all of the best specimens of Zincolivenite have come from Tsumeb, from only a few pockets; and the deep-green color here is about as good as your could possibly ask for. Most famous are the renowned crystals with the curved, fan-like habit, and these orthorhombic crystals, to 8-9 mm, exhibit just a bit of that curvature. Classic material. These were once known as Cuprian Adamites before reclassification by the academics forced us to change our labels, and widely valued as adamites. Now, they are widely valued as Olivenite (a zinc rich species all its own, to be particular) — perhaps more so as the species is more rare. Few Zincolivenites from Tsumeb attain this color saturation, amplified by the very high luster. This is from a single famous pocket in the 1980s. With such fine aesthetics, this cluster makes a quality thumbnail. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 32510.
