Rhodochrosite
The Detroit City Portal mining operations began in 2017. This mine is approximately 300 feet, or 90 meters, above the old Sweet Home Mine workings that it was closed in 2004. The portal was removed and the entrance was cemented and reclaimed. The two mines do not connect but both of them have produced some of the highest-quality Rhodochrosite specimens in the world. This specimen is a very good example of the good quality of the specimens found there. Very well formed rhombohedral crystal of Rhodochrosite with very sharp faces and edges, nice red color and good brilliance. Disposed aerial on a bit of matrix of Sulphides, Sphalerite and Pyrite. A classic in perfect condition, no damage.
