Sodalite var. Hackmanite$2,500.00

Hackmanite in sharp dodecahedron-shaped crystals is very rare in nature, with only a few fine specimens known from large deposits in Afghanistan and almost nowhere else. This sharp specimen is a full miniature with a huge and sharp central crystal of 2.5 cm. It is a sparkling, frosty white color due to a thin coating of tiny crystals of white albite on top. Underneath is the complete sodalite, and it fluoresces a neon orange with a UV penlight just to prove the point — although these were well studied when they came out and it is known what they are (at first, they were thought to be other things due to the sharp shape and white color). This particular pocket was found some years ago (not sure exactly when, but we have been told in the early 2000s), and nothing like it since. This is said to be one of the finer miniatures, by Steve, who has owned it a long time. Complete all around, even on the backside. The associated yellow crystals seem to be sphalerite. This was a choice example long held (nearly two decades) in Steve Smale's suite of rare species miniatures.
