Pyrite on Fluorite

Pyrite on Fluorite from Huanzala Mine, Peru. 21st Century.

Pyrite, often called “fool’s gold” is found in sedimentary formations, some dating over 130 million years old. The Huanzala mine is famous for producing truly exceptional pieces. Living up to that reputation, this specimen has rich yellow-gold pyrite crystals that beautifully reflect light off its mirror-like faces. The composition of the sharp pyrites cascading down onto the clear fluorite crystals forms a sculptural masterpiece.
